1. Picture Perfect
Let’s start with the basics, a photo. Ours stats show listings with photos get 6 times more views than listings without a photo! Most people have a smartphone these days, so just take some snaps on your phone and instantly upload them with our free app.
2. Photo Quality
Don’t get me wrong, any photo is better than no photo, but good photos attract attention. Read our top ten tips for taking pictures of your livestock. Suggestions: if it is a bull – side, profile and back end, if it is a dairy cow – udder and rear end might be more appropriate.
3. Descriptive Descriptions
Adding a comprehensive description saves you time from repeating answers to identical enquiries, and reduces the number of “time wasters”. Here is a list of things you should include: breeding history, health scheme, TB area, vaccinations, temperament, reason for sale, pasture type, living conditions, pedigree information, EBV information, links to appropriate websites, and the list goes on!
This is great addition if you are selling pedigree stock. We can attach the both Basco and Breedplan EBVs to the bottom of the listing, making life a lot easier for potential buyers!
5. Breed Society Portals
We now have partnerships with 8 breed societies, that have dedicated sections on the website for registered breeders. Some portals are free, and some charge, but any money goes straight back to your society, not to us. Our current partnerships are with: Aberdeen Angus, Beef Shorthorn, Charolais, South Devon, Texel, Charollais, Suffolk and Bleu du Maine!
6. Go Premium
It costs £12 to make your listing premium, but this guarantees your listing going on our newsletter and on social media. Combined, these have a potential reach of over 30,000 people.
7. Proper Pricing
Are you sure you have priced your stock properly? Look at other similar adverts on the website, especially sold stock, and consider what is different about yours. Some factors that influence price are: TB status, health status, pedigree, age, fertility testing, named sires, fitness level and so on.
8. Health & Assurance
It is a good selling point if your stock is assured or in a premium health scheme, so let people know! Assurance logos appear on your website if you are assured, which immediately encourages potential buyers.
The 8 points above are the fundamentals of a good advert, now let’s work on your profile:
If you have sold before through SellMyLivestock, you can request a review from previous buyers to build your online reputation! This gives potential buyers confidence in buying from you.
Adding personal images to your account is inviting for buyers, and ensures them you are a genuine farmer! You can add an image to both your account and your profile, typically these would be a farm logo, picture of your farm or a good old selfie!
